Mazars Central and Eastern European tax guide 2022

The Hungarian office of Mazars published for the tenth time its regional tax guide, which presents snapshots and comparative charts of the tax systems of 22 CEE countries for 2022.

The guide represents offers up-to-date information on taxation in 22 European countries, including labor costs, corporate profit taxation, and transfer pricing. The guide serves long-term investment decisions by analyzing long-term taxation trends and fundamental changes in the tax regimes, both in comparison with each other and to previous years.

In addition to the Visegrad Group, the guide analyses the tax regimes of the South-Eastern European countries, Germany, Austria, Moldova, Ukraine, and the Baltic States, focusing on changes and trends in the tax regimes.

Highlights for 2022 - Serbia:

  • Currently, the applicable CIT rate is 15% resident and non-resident companies. Resident companies are taxed on their worldwide income, and non-residents are taxed only on income generated in Serbia..
  • In Serbia, the general rate is 20%, reduced rates are 10% (e.g. bread, milk, accommodation services, medications. fertilizer, etc.). There are applicable VAT-exemptions for exports, transport and other services which are associated with the importation of goods. Taxpayers with revenue in excess of approximately EUR 67,000 must register for VAT purposes. Non-residents may register for VAT purposes only through a tax representative.
  • In Serbia, resident individuals are taxed based on their worldwide income, while non-residents are taxed only on income in Serbia. There is a flat rate of 10% for gross salaries. Capital gains are taxed at 15%. Active incomes fall under the scope of the SSC system: individual social contributions are 19.90% of the gross salary. These include contributions for pension and disability insurance (14%), health insurance (5.15%) and unemployment insurance (0.75%) which are paid by the employee. Employer’s contributions amount to 16.15% (pension and disability insurance- 11%, health insurance- 5.15%).
